“A Proactive Approach To Student Wellbeing”

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

Social and emotional learning can help students learn the competencies and skills they need to build resilience and effectively self-regulate their emotions, behaviour and relationships with others.

It provides students with opportunities to learn and practice social skills such as:

  • Managing conflict
  • Developing positive relationships with peers
  • Recognising and regulating emotions and feelings
  • Collaboration
  • Resilience
  • Help-seeking behaviours and language

SEL programs at Springvale Rise Primary, set out to explicitly promote these skills in children and young people. SEL is prioritised throughout the week, home groups provide 1-2 planned hours of SEL each week, in addition to Circle Time. Lessons are planned using the school’s SEL Scope and Sequence which incorporates the ‘Respectful Relationships’ curriculum.

The Zones of Regulation Framework is used to support the teaching of social emotional learning, providing students and staff with consistent language and the skills to identity and self-regulate emotions.

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

SWPBS is an evidence-based school improvement approach that creates a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. It focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours while providing targeted assistance to students who may need extra support, leading to a more successful and inclusive learning community. Springvale Rise ensures that all students receive support to maximise behavioural, wellbeing and academic growth.

SWPBS is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

Lunch Clubs

Each term, a variety of lunch clubs are on offer to support student engagement and the development of social relationships. Lunch clubs are facilitated during the second half of lunch, are based both indoors and outdoors. Students can access the Lunch Clubs timetable in their classroom, and at the front office.  Examples of lunch clubs can include art, dance, garden, prayer and social games.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club is facilitated across both campuses, every morning in the Community Hub. A free breakfast including toast, toasties, fruit and yoghurt, is provided for students and families who attend. Breakfast Club is an opportunity to sit with others to socialise and enjoy a healthy breakfast before learning starts. Everyone is welcome at Breakfast Club, we hope to see you there. We thank our partner organisations Food Bank and Chobani for providing food for our Breakfast Club. (Refer to the Community Hub tab for more information).
